Cuban President Fidel Castro has made his first live comments for months on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's radio talk show.

Castro telephoned the show and told his good friend Chavez that he feels good and happy and more energetic.

He also said his country was running smoothly without him at the helm.

The comments were the first from the Cuban leader since he temporarily ceded power to his brother Raul while he recovers from intestinal surgery.

The lack of information on his condition has prompted rumours that he is gravely ill and will not be returning to the presidency.
