Running on a diet of enthusiasm and coffee, the business desk rarely flags but is always glad of an injection of either ingredient.
It was little surprise therefore to hear that two behemoths in the coffee world are doing well: Starbucks is opening new cafes in China while Whitbread, the owner of Costa, has seen its sales grow nearly 7%.
While it can sometimes be difficult to warm to such giant companies, there's no doubting the fact they've opened the world up to a wealth of new ways to take a cup of coffee.
And on the back of that have come a wealth of local coffee shops which we, on the desk, prefer to frequent for our daily caffeine fix, and more of which you can read about in next week's Business Telegraph.
Baristas of Northern Ireland, we salute you and wish you many happy flat whites.
