Journalistic 'essentials' just got more expensive
Bad news just in. The price of two commodities which make the day pass quicker for any self-respecting business journalist rocketed yesterday.
London cocoa futures jumped 7% over worries that supplies from the world's top producer Ivory Coast are drying up, sending shivers through the chocolate-dependent business desk.
Meanwhile, the price of arabica coffee also rose on the US markets and while this dented the mood of your correspondents further, a slide in the value of lower quality robusta coffee - because of a huge harvest in Vietnam, seeing as you asked - at least meant the daily hit of caffeine could be sourced at reasonable cost.
These may be classed as soft commodities but to us they're deadly serious.
