Couple well-groomed for success

By Emma Deighan

A couple in Newtownards have realised their career goals after opening their own dog grooming business with the support of the Go For It programme.

Phil Glover and Emma Shanks, both from Comber, opened The Pawdressers in the town after completing the programme, which is part-funded by Invest NI and the European Regional Development Fund.

Mr Glover said: "One night we were watching television and a Go For It advertisement came on. We decided right then to give them a call - we had nothing to lose. Within a few days we had met with the Go For It business advisers in Ards Business Centre.

"We had nothing, no business plan, no idea about finances or bookkeeping, nothing.

"They worked with us to bring all of that together and to create a plan which was realistic and manageable. Meeting with them was the best thing we ever did."

Tamsin Evans, business adviser, Ards Business Centre, said: "Phil and Emma initially came to us for help with a business plan, but we worked with them to bring the entire business to life."
