An award-winning Co Down seafood restaurant is set to close its doors at the end of the year.

The Quays in Portavogie will close on December 31 after the current management team decided not to renew their lease.

The restaurant opened its doors in January 1998 and is currently run by Head Chef Aaron Hanna and Janine Ennis.

Mr Hanna has worked at the restaurant from the very start and took over the running in 2014.

They also run the King Street Kitchen in Bangor.

In a statement Mr Hanna and Janine Ennis said it had been an "incredible journey" but they could no longer give the business the "energy and commitment it requires".

"We have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and we can’t thank our customers and staff enough as we couldn’t have done it without you all. It’s been an absolute pleasure," the statement read.

"In the meantime it’s business as usual for our remaining six months and we thank you for your continued support."

The Quays was named Northern Ireland's Best Seafood Establishment in 2016 and has been featured in Georgina Campbell's All Ireland Food Guide since 2014.
