Husband and wife team open up new gastro pub in 'vibrant' Ballynahinch

By Mark Edwards

A new gastro pub in Co Down is creating 10 jobs.

Husband and wife team Nick and Joanne Clough have opened the Aniseed Lounge in Ballynahinch at the site of the former Cloisters bar on Dromore Street.

The new establishment launched earlier this month after extensive renovations. The couple also received support from Ulster Bank.

The lounge will include a gastro pub on the ground floor with the owners planning on extending to a first-floor function room and dining space with a beer garden to the rear.

Mr Clough has been head chef at the Malone Lodge Hotel in Belfast and The Old Inn in Crawfordsburn.

His wife, Joanna, is a qualified solicitor and university lecturer.

Mrs Clough said: "In recent years we have seen significant investment and interest in the area with a number of successful establishments opening for business, and we saw this as an ideal opportunity to add to the vibrant scene."
