New Portstewart hotel saddles up with North West 200
The new £20m four-star Merrow Hotel and Spa on the north coast is to sponsor the 2018 Vauxhall International North West 200.
The hotel, which got the green light earlier this year, will be located on Ballyreagh Road, Portstewart. It will be beside the start and finish line of the renowned race meeting, which runs from May 13-19 this year.
And when it opens in 2020, it will also become the official home of NW200 with the event offices located within the grounds.
NW200 event director Mervyn Whyte said: "Our association with the Merrow Hotel and Spa complex will help strengthen that relationship and provide the race with a new home as we approach our 90th anniversary.
"We wish to create a permanent home for this world-famous road race. This is a truly exciting proposition."
The Merrow will have 118 bedrooms, a spa, leisure club and swimming pool.
Mark Donnelly from the hotel said: "We hope to provide the North West 200 with a unique opportunity to create a constant presence at its true home on the north coast as well as providing much needed leisure and hospitality services in the area."
