Subway to open eight more outlets in Northern Ireland this year

By Ryan McAleer

Sandwich chain Subway is to open eight new stores in Northern Ireland over the next six months.

The company made the announcement as it unveiled a new £90,000 concept store inside a Spar shop in Ballycastle.

The new venture in the Co Antrim seaside town is Subway's 50th Fresh Forward outlet in the UK and 100th in Europe.

The sandwich retailer is marking its 20th year in Northern Ireland.

The chain opened its first local store on Botanic Avenue in Belfast in 1998.

Overall, the chain now has 105 stores here, employing around 1,500 people.

Stacey Brown of Subway said the new design concept in Ballycastle will give Spar customers an enhanced experience when enjoying the healthy and hearty food the chain is now well-known for.
