£1bn Westminster deal 'boosts NI jobs market: survey

By John Mulgrew

The promise of a £1bn boost to Northern Ireland following the DUP's deal with Theresa May's Government has resulted in "boosted hiring optimism" in the jobs market here, it's been claimed.

There was a spike in hiring intentions here, up 7% in the last quarter, out-pacing the UK as a whole. That's according to Manpower survey of 2,100 businesses across the UK.

Jason Greaves, operations director at Manpower, said: "Now the dust has settled on the General Election, we are starting to see some longer term benefits of the promised £1bn boost to Northern Ireland's economy.

"Both the manufacturing and automotive and transport sectors have seen particularly high demand for skilled candidates and this is translating to higher rates of pay for candidates. In manufacturing, clients are crying out for experienced welders, and clever candidates are making the most of this strong position by pushing for higher salaries."
