MJM Group expands with creation of 30 new jobs at Newry headquarters

By Michelle Weir

Newry marine fit-out giant MJM Group will be creating 30 new jobs at its headquarters before the end of the year.

The family company carries out new builds, refurbishment and fit-out services for marine, commercial and private sectors.

It recently announced the acquisition of Co Antrim firm Topglass and is also fitting out luxury cruise ship the Azamara Pursuit in Belfast.

The new posts include contract managers, quantity surveyors, designers, production and workshop operatives as well as a range of other roles.

The recruitment drive is part of ongoing expansion plans with a new phase of office accommodation due to open later this year.

Brian McConville, founder and chairman of MJM Group, which also owns the Mivan fit-out brand, said: "We are a dynamic and agile group of businesses and we believe we offer our people something different compared to the traditional construction sector.

"Our marine based projects give many of our team the opportunity to travel all over the world, as well as locally, on projects such as the Azamara Pursuit currently being refitted in Belfast."

The contract between cruise liners Royal Caribbean and Azamara Club and the specialist high-end fit-out company is believed to be worth around £50m.

Mr McConville added: "We have filled some posts in recent weeks, but we are particularly keen to add to our project teams with talent from across the construction sector.

"We will soon be recruiting in our other companies as Mivan is growing and we have exciting growth plans for Topglass.

"We believe it is an ideal time for ambitious, talented people to come join our team."

MJM Group is part of the McConville group which also incorporates Mivan, Topglass and retail and commercial developments. It employs around 500 people.

Gary Annett, CEO of MJM Group, added: "We have a fantastic team of people working at MJM Group who do an amazing job, but as we continue to grow we need to expand our team."

He said the family company is celebrating 35 years in business this year.

Company founder Mr McConville's son and daughter, Conleth and Naoimh, are also directors.
