A new Marks & Spencer foodhall is preparing to open at a filling station forecourt close to Belfast International Airport. The first-of-its-kind for Northern Ireland, the new Simply Food store will create 23 jobs when it opens its doors on October 19.

It will target passengers travelling to and from the airport located outside Antrim, as well as people in the town and surrounding areas.

It comes after the Belfast Telegraph revealed yesterday that M&S would open the store as part of the new forecourt development.

The 2,400sq ft store "will offer an extensive range" of the supermarket's food and drink.

M&S said that free parking will be available for customers visiting the store at Belfast International Airport.

Manager Michael Gillen said: "The new store launch has been widely anticipated in the local community in Antrim and we're looking forward to bringing the best of M&S food and drink to Belfast International Airport and the surrounding area.

"We will be working hard over the next few months to make sure we offer fantastic service, putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and making this store a part of the local community in Antrim.

"We can't wait to welcome our first customers through our doors on Thursday, October 19."

Meanwhile, a larger new Marks & Spencer store is to create 80 jobs, and a further 100 during its construction.

Marlborough Retail Park in Craigavon, Co Armagh, will become the chain's 21st local outlet. It comes as the company celebrates 50 years here.

The multi-national retailer is the first new tenant at the site, which was formerly home to B&Q.

Marks & Spencer will take around 16,000sq ft for a foodhall as part of the overall 80,000sq ft development.

Just last week local family bakery Genesis Crafty said it has created almost 50 jobs on the back of a big deal with M&S, including 10 management positions.

It has secured a "multi-million pound uplift to its existing contract with Marks & Spencer", which has doubled the company's cake business. Its teatime range will be sold at 800 Marks & Spencer stores across the UK.

Recruitment for the new posts is now under way.
