New adventure park for Belfast the springboard for company expansion

By Lesley Houston

Europe's largest trampoline park is set to spring into Belfast along with 50 new jobs.

Adventure centre We Are Vertigo is launching the new fleet of trampolines at its south Belfast centre later this month ahead of ambitious plans to expand the business to new locations throughout Ireland.

Owners Gareth and Lorna Murphy said the latest addition to their business, which opened in October last year, will be the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and brings their total number of employees to 100.

Activities for all ages include two indoor ski slopes, climbing walls, a 100ft mobile zip line, high wire rope course, a soft play area and two cafes.

The trampolines will be in place for December 19 while a new spa is scheduled to open in February 2015 creating around 10 new jobs, both full and part-time.

Increased opening hours at the centre, at Cedarhurst Road, Newtownbreda factory estate, will further expand the workforce to 120, confirmed Mr Murphy.

The new park features trampolines that are built into the floor and walls, and are set within the new wing that also houses three basketball lanes, a stunt pit and a 3D dodgeball court.

A viewing platform will overlook the park.

Mr Murphy said the aim was to create “a unique, innovative entertainment centre”.

He added that further jobs were in the pipeline as the enterprise continues to grow, and confirmed plans to expand the We Are Vertigo brand to new branches.

“We are looking at other sites within the island of Ireland,” he said. “It’s a bit premature to say where yet, but we are actively looking at other sites.”

Commenting on the next new service to be introduced, the spa, Lorna Murphy said: “It will be a full spa, going back to basic beauty treatments but with a very luxurious and high-end product range and it will probably create around 10 new jobs.”

Gareth Murphy said Danske Bank had underpinned the company’s latest investments in its new posts and facilities.

“They are very supportive of our vision for the future and have been instrumental in the business being able to offer greater facilities,” he said.

Ian Beatty of Danske Bank, which supported the expansion, said: “We Are Vertigo is an excellent example of an indigenous company which has come up with an extremely innovative concept and is reaping the rewards as a result, with great potential for expansion into other markets in the coming months.”
