New Ballymena social housing homes released

Social housing provider Choice Housing has completed the first phase of an £8.5m scheme in Ballymena.

The Larne Road development, funded by an investment of £4.4m from the Department for Communities and £4m through private finance, will feature 74 new homes that can accommodate a total of 238 people.

They include a mix of two and three-bedroom properties as well as two-bed apartments and homes for the over-55s.

Phase one includes the first 12 units which will be available later this month.

The homes are built on the former site of St Mary's Primary School and have been allocated to residents through the NI Housing Executive, targeting vacancies to those applicants registered on the waiting list. It is anticipated that phases two and three will be allocated in the summer.

North Antrim MLA Paul Frew said the scheme would bring "relief" to those living in the Ballymena area who have been on the waiting list.
