£130k deal for innovative firm

By Heather McGarrigle

Northern Ireland companies are being encouraged to enter an all-island innovation competition for a chance to secure a €150,000 (£131,000) promotion deal.

Now in its third year, the Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards recognise and promote the best innovations within firms of all sectors and sizes across Ireland.

Companies can enter in one of six categories and the winner of each will receive a €10,000 (£8,760) Irish Times media deal.

Category winners then compete to win the overall title of Innovation of the Year, with the winning firm awarded a communications and advertising package worth €150,000.

Paypal’s vice president Louise Phelan and Sisk Group chief executive Liam Nagle will be on the judging panel.

Previous winner Kingspan Renewables is encouraging other Ulster companies to take part.

Andrea Fordham, marketing manager for the Portadown-based manufacturer, said: “Since our win, we have developed the product further.

“We are also moving into key commercial markets in South Africa, China and Australia and have plans to launch a new product.”
