All-island competition mirrors real life investment process

Cross-border body InterTradeIreland has launched its annual all-island business competition for new companies.

The Seedcorn competition requires companies to submit a business plan, and if shortlisted, they are invited to give an investment pitch in front of a judging panel of venture capitalists.

Winning companies will be able to share in a €280,000 (£228,000) prize fund.

Brendan Butler, InterTradeIreland board member and chairman of its EquityNetwork, said: "The Seedcorn competition is unique in that it mirrors the real-life investment process and allows participants to develop key skills that will increase their chances of securing investment and ultimately grow their business."

The deadline for completed business plans is September 12. Companies are required to register their interest at www.

Regional winners will be announced in mid-November before going on to compete in the all-island final on November 28 at Titanic Belfast. Free workshops for those considering entering take place in Belfast on May 22, May 31 and June 6, in Londonderry on May 31 and in Newry on July 4.
