Andersonstown News axes edition

The Andersonstown News is to cease publication of one of its twice-weekly editions with the loss of nine jobs.

The west Belfast outlet will no longer print a Monday paper, with yesterday's being the last.

The Belfast Media Group, which will continue to produce the main Thursday edition, amalgamating Monday's content, expressed hope some of the redundancies can be achieved voluntarily.

Group managing director Mairtin O Muilleoir said: "It is with regret that the Belfast Media Group is ceasing publication of the Monday edition of the Andersonstown News.

"Unfortunately, this decision will result in nine redundancies. It is hoped that some of these redundancies will be voluntary and discussions have now begun with staff and their representatives."
