Bakery on the rise with new supermarket deal

A CO Londonderry bakery has won a contract to produce premium breakfast goods for a supermarket chain.

McErlain's Bakery in Magherafelt has developed new bakery products for the Tesco 'finest' range in a deal worth £500,000 a year. The bakery - which is best known for its Genesis Crafty brand - said the contract represented "significant growth", with products to be sold in Tesco in-store bakeries across Northern Ireland.

Brian McErlain said: "Any increase in business in the current climate is welcomed so we are delighted to have secured this significant contract with Tesco."

Cliff Kells, commercial manager for Tesco in Northern Ireland, said the bakery had worked to retain the skills of traditional homes bakeries.

"Our customers are accustomed to an excellent range of local produce and with the introduction of these new morning goods under the Tesco 'finest' brand customers will have even more opportunities to sample locally-produced products," he added.
