Boots is to cut around 700 non-store-based jobs as part of a shake-up of the business, it announced today.
The retail giant said it will begin talks with affected staff in due course.
However, the firm added that it would put additional resources into its digital unit.
Boots president Simon Roberts said: "Together with my leadership team, I believe this plan will make Boots even better for our customers and drive sustainable future growth."
It comes after US retailer Walgreens took full control of Boots the Chemist owner Alliance Boots after announcing a £9bncash and shares deal.
The new group, Walgreen Boots Alliance, will be based in Chicago but the headquarters of Boots will remain in Nottingham.
Alliance Boots employs more than 108,000 staff in more than 25 countries, including 70,000 in the UK, where Boots has nearly 2,500 stores.
