Brothers on the trail of improved carriers for keen motorsport competitors

An innovative start-up business from Moneyreagh is aiming to make its mark in the lucrative motorsports market across the UK and Ireland by launching a bespoke trailer which combines a living area with transportation space.

Motorsport Trailers has secured support from Ulster Bank's start-up and emerging business package, and has recently completed two prototype models of its new trailers which are being shown at motorsport events and trade fairs throughout the UK and Ireland.

The company, founded by brothers Joe and Paul McCartan, is one of over 2, businesses which have been supported by the Ulster Bank start-up package since it was launched in October 2010.

While some view current trading conditions as difficult, Joe and Paul are confident that opportunities exist. As Paul explains: "Typically when motor sports competitors travel to races they use a lorry to transport their bikes or cars as well as a motor home for some living space.

"This is very costly in terms of outlay and additional motoring costs such as tax and insurance. We have designed a range of trailers which can meet both needs in that they can hold vehicles as well as providing comfortable living quarters. "This meets their needs in a cost effective manner and the bespoke design means that the full range of motorsport activities can be catered for - bikes, karts, quads and cars. Even vintage tractors."
