Builders boosted by development

Almost 30 housing association homes are to be built in Co Down in a lift for construction in the area.

Social Development Minister Alex Attwood announced the £3.5m development of family housing in Crewhill, Ardglass.

The homes - 22 houses and four apartments, of which two are designed for independent older people - are being delivered by Ark Housing Association. Kelly Brothers in Warrenpoint, Co Down, is building the development.

Minister Attwood said: "In times of economic hardship, a comfortable, warm home is a necessity. These houses and apartments will address the need of families in the area. Even when my department's budget is being reduced, I still have to find money to ensure that those in housing distress have access to a home.

"A key priority for my department is an increase in quality and energy-efficient homes. I very much welcome this latest initiative from Ark Housing Association that will make a positive impact on already falling waiting lists."
