Construction will emerge from the economic downturn as a modern profession ready to meet change, a seminar has heard.
Anne McVicker, chief executive of women’s trade organisation Women’stec said the industry needed skills training, more women and increased use of sustainable materials if it was to be ready for an upturn in the economy.
“The building industry is still in the midst of decline, but this will not last forever. This is the perfect time to take stock and to embrace new ideas that will make it a more attractive profession for young people, including young women.”
Ms McVicker was addressing a seminar organised by Women’stec and CITB-ConstructionSkills NI.
