Building trade loses 30,000 jobs
Construction workloads are continuing to fall, jobs are being lost and the wider economy is being damaged as a result, according to a building trade body reacting to the latest figures.
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment's labour force survey said over 30,000 jobs have been lost.
The value of construction output in real prices in the third quarter of 2012 was the lowest reported in the last five years, estimated to be £460m, 42.3% lower than the peak value in the first quarter of 2007 at £798m.
The volume of construction output in Northern Ireland in the third quarter of 2012 fell by 4.7% compared to the second quarter of 2012 and was 7.5% lower compared to the same quarter in 2011.
