Bushmills deal seals award for lawyers
Law firm A&L Goodbody has walked away with the award for 'Deal of the Year' for its work in the takeover of Bushmills whiskey.
It took the gong at the Inside Dealmaker Awards for its work in the acquisition of the Bushmills Old Distillery Company by Mexican tequila house, Casa Cuervo.
The Mexican drinks giant bought the distillery - considered the oldest in the world - for around £440m.
The judges said: "This was the largest corporate transaction to be recorded in Northern Ireland in 2014.
"The judges felt this was the outstanding deal of the year as it saw significant foreign investment into Northern Ireland.
"The deal will see the Bushmills Irish Whiskey brand grow globally, underpinned by the strong expertise and focus of Casa Cuervo as one of the world's leading drinks corporations."
Mark Thompson, head of A&L Goodbody's Belfast office said: "A&L Goodbody once again had a stand-out deal-making year in 2014 and these two awards are well deserved recognition of our industry-leading team and the key role they continue to play in advising on a wide portfolio of significant international and local deals."
