Caterers take first bite of UK market

By Clare Weir

A top Northern Ireland catering firm has expanded further into Great Britain in a £250,000 investment.

Mount Charles has opened a third Fed & Watered bistro over the last year, and its first outlet outside of Northern Ireland, at Exeter Airport.

Other branches are located at Belfast International Airport and the Obel building in the city.

The Exeter outlet is expected to generate a total turnover in excess of £10m for the group who won the contract to be the airport's exclusive provider of food and beverage services against stiff competition from several multi-national organisations across Great Britain.

The group intends to have 10 Fed & Watered outlets operational within the next two years and also plans to enter the Republic of Ireland market in the near future.

Owner and founder of The Mount Charles Group Trevor Annon said that Exeter offers huge potential for the growth of the brand.

"This tremendous gain will now open up opportunities for us to develop services within the regional airport market throughout the UK," he said.

"I am very proud, but not surprised, that we are competing and winning contracts against some of the biggest names in the industry.

"Such success is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and drive of all our employees."

Matthew Roach, the managing director of Exeter Airport, added: "I have been very impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the new Mount Charles team and we are looking forward to a very successful, long-term relationship with them."
