Chair says cross-border body can drive recovery

Pricewatwerhouse Coopers managing director in Northern Ireland Hugh Crossey has been appointed chairman of an all-island industry group.

Mr Crossey will chair the 40 strong IBEC-CBI Joint Business Council, which aims to promote economic development. Formed in 1991, the council is a partnership between the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) here and the Irish Business and Employers’ Confederation (IBEC) in the Republic. Mr Crossey said: “The current economic climate has profoundly impacted on both jurisdictions and collaboration in driving up our competitiveness and encouraging investment are key to stimulating recovery.

“Developing even stronger cross-border communications, energy and education linkages are vital if we are to exploit the investment opportunities that global recovery will offer.”
