Company helps workers kick the habit in time for No Smoking Day

Employees of a Newtownabbey-based company have taken up the challenge to quit smoking in time for national No Smoking Day.

Northgate Managed Services saw 18 workers take on its workplace quit smoking clinic which was delivered through a partnership between Boots, Abbeycentre and Workplace Smoking Cessation Service (WSCS).

Andy Ross, Chief Executive of Northgate Managed Services, said the scheme has proved worthwhile.

"I am delighted that we have been able to help our staff members in their desire to quit smoking," he said.

"Those involved are now in the 8th week of the 12-week programme and are already feeling the benefits.

"It's our second year taking part in the programme and we will continue to offer it to staff as it has been an extremely worthwhile venture for all involved."

Gillian McAtackney, WSCS, said demand for the programme was strong.

"There was a strong demand for an onsite smoking cessation clinic from Northgate employees," she said.

"Patricia actively recruited participants, I assessed their readiness to quit and contacted Cathy Morris, pharmacist in the Boots store in Abbeycentre to assist with the clinic delivery."
