Construction firm celebrates laying foundations for return of the MAC

Family-run firm Mascott Construction is celebrating its work on the city's newest arts venue.

Belfast firm Mascott worked on the £18m MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) for two years and said the building was one of the most interesting in its portfolio.

Mascott director Alwyn Campbell said the design "provided us with testing construction challenges", adding: "These ranged from early installation of specialist energy efficient services such as Geothermal heating, complex temporary works and integrated theatrical services systems to bespoke concrete finishes, glazing systems and high quality finishes.

"This simply meant ensuring we had the right construction team and supply chain partners with the right expertise and skills as well as developing a strong working relationship with the design team from the outset."

The building, which opens on April 20, includes theatres, galleries, a dance studio, rehearsal, education and workshop rooms.
