A Newry construction firm has completed work on a state-of-the-art primary school in County Down.

O'Hare & McGovern has finished the £5m St Joseph's Primary School in Carryduff, which was commissioned by St MacNissi's Trust as part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project to provide three new schools, two primary and one secondary, in the Diocese of Down and Connor.

The accommodation totalling 2,871 sqm includes 15 classrooms, four resource rooms, a multi- purpose hall with kitchen and a nursery unit.

Eamon O'Hare, managing director of O'Hare & McGovern, said the scheme was finished on schedule ahead of the new academic school year.

"The 420 pupils at St Joseph's can look forward to bright, spacious, modern accommodation incorporating the latest teaching technology, together with a stand alone nursery unit with 52 places." he said.

"This project is the second of four schools O'Hare & McGovern will be handing over before the start of the new academic year, with the first, St Mary's Primary in Portglenone, handed over earlier this year and two other schools in Derry almost complete."
