Costa Coffee brewing up in Strabane outlet

Costa Coffee - part of the Whitbread group of companies -is set to open a new outlet in a retail park in Co Tyrone.

The business has taken a new unit in Lesley Retail Park, Strabane.

Commercial property agents McKibbin Commercial - which negotiated the deal for the landlord - said it was built by the owner to Costa's specific requirements.

The coffee shop chain has taken out a 15-year lease negotiated by McKibbin's Michael Hopkins.

A spokesman for McKibbin's said: "The letting represents two continuing trends in the market place - the increase in demand for cafe and coffee shop premises is continuing to rise.

"In addition, tenants are now taking longer leases compared with only a few years ago were most leases were in the region of five to 10 years."

Costa has around 20 coffee shops in Northern Ireland.

In April this year, Whitbread announced plans to increase sales at its Costa coffee business from £1.4bn in the year to the end of February 2015 to £2.5bn by the year 2020.

The company also mapped out plans for as many as 900 of its Premier Inn hotels by the end of 2020. There are currently just under 700.
