Creamery is the big cheese after new contract

By Margaret Canning

A goat's cheese product from Co Tyrone has been listed by a major UK food wholesaler ahead of St Patrick's Day.

Fivemiletown Creamery's Boilíe is being listed by wholesaler 3663 in 1kg tubs. 3663 sells to 60,000 customers in hotels, restaurants, pubs and canteens around the UK and Ireland.

Owen Jones, business development manager at Fivemiletown, said: "Securing a listing from 3663 is potentially a very important contract for us because it will mean Boilíe being marketed and distributed to the wholesaler's huge network of catering organisations.

"The agreement with 3663 will help to increase awareness of what is a very unique and versatile cheese product and position it for further growth in the strategically important UK foodservice sector, a key business growth target for us."

The Boilíe product consists of goat's cheese handrolled into a pearl shape and marinated in garlic-infused oil.

3663 buyer John Nelson said: "We've included Boilíe in our product range because it is such a distinctive Irish cheese that will go down well with our customers. Its series of international awards for quality and taste fit in with 3663's own standards for quality.

"We have a longstanding commitment to support regional specialities and seek to offer our customers something new and different for meal solutions from food companies, particularly smaller businesses, throughout the UK."

Fivemiletown, which employs 90 people, is run as a farmers' cooperative which obtains milk from farmers around Northern Ireland.

Other products include soft cheeses Ballybrie, Ballyblue and Ballyoak and cheddars.
