Eason shutting up shop at Fairhill in Ballymena

By John Mulgrew

More than a dozen jobs are at risk at Eason in Ballymena which is closing its doors after more than 30 years in business in the Co Antrim town.

The bookstore told staff today that the Fairhill Shopping Centre store would be shutting at the end of next month.

It says following the expiry of its lease, it was "unable to reach a viable agreement on the terms of a new lease" and now has no option but to close.

It says it is "fully committed to exploring all possible options" to transfer staff to other Eason stores in Northern Ireland.

Eason currently has 10 stores in Northern Ireland.
