Employers encouraged to help in mental health battle

Employers are being encouraged to promote positive mental health in the workplace, following new guidance released by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI).

With reports suggesting the cost of working days lost to mental ill health in Northern Ireland could be as up to £125m a year, HSENI said implementing measures to address workplace mental health will help reduce absences and increase productivity.

Professor Peter McKie, chairman of HSENI said: "Employers should recognise the warning signs of work-related mental health conditions such as stress and anxiety and take measures to build healthier workplaces."
