Employers urge change on unfair dismissal law

Most employers believe the law on unfair dismissal should be changed to make it easier for them to lay off staff, according to a new study.

Research among around 250 employers also found that more than two out of three said they had no effective protection against workers taking "unjustifiable" claims to employment tribunals. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) said three out of five firms it questioned complained that an employee claiming unfair dismissal had "tagged on" a discrimination claim in the hope of getting more compensation.
