Energy firm seaside bound with new network plans

Natural gas provider firmus energy has extended its supply network to Portstewart.

The company, which is owned by the Republic’s Bord Gais, said following discussions with the Utility Regulator it had received approval to extend its natural gas networking into the |seaside town. Firmus already supplies Coleraine, and nine other towns in Northern Ireland with natural gas, while Phoenix Natural Gas supplies gas in the Greater Belfast area.

Neil Holland, head of sales and marketing for Firmus Energy said: “During this time of economic instability, everyone is particularly conscious of their outgoings and are shopping around for the best value. Although natural gas has only been available in the Coleraine area since 2006, it has been used in the rest of the UK and Ireland for over 20 years where it has historically been the most cost effective fuel for home heating needs.”

The company said it would liaise with all the appropriate bodies to ensure any impact of connecting the town is kept to a minimum.

“We are very aware of the popularity of Portstewart, particularly over the summer months when thousands flock to enjoy all it has to offer. In recognition of this, no work will be carried out during July and August,” said Mr Holland.
