Entrepreneur on different tack as firm moves to Science Park

The inventor of an extra-strong tack has moved from the Dragons' Den to the Titanic Quarter in a bid to expand his business.

Entrepreneur Damien McGrane - who won investment from a 'dragon' on RTE reality business show Dragons' Den last year said he hoped moving to the Northern Ireland Science Park would help develop the business in Northern Ireland and abroad.

The Takker, which is sold in Woodies DIY stores in the Republic, is similar to a staple gun and dispenses pre-loaded Takks into walls made from plaster board, wood, fencing and aerated concrete block.

It is designed to prevent long-term damage to walls as the Takks are easily removed.

Mr McGrane said working from the Science Park in Belfast's Titanic Quarter, where he has been teamed up with a business mentor, would be "the perfect location" to take Takker forward.

"The community at the park encourages innovative collaboration, something which I strongly believe is the key to a successful venture," he said.

"To date we have sold over 70,000 units and in January we hope to finalise a partnership deal to launch Takker into the US market."
