Failed building firm boss McConville gets boardroom ban

The boss of a failed building firm in Newry has received a five-year boardroom ban for not declaring the transfer of a property and failing to file accounts.

Building contractors M D Developments went bust nearly three years ago with no assets and debts of nearly £115,000.

Director Derek McConville (41) of Seapatrick Avenue, Seapatrick, Banbridge, gave a disqualification undertaking to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) in November.

Disqualification proceedings are being brought against another director of the failed company, DETI said.

The company director accepted that he had failed to flag up the transfer of properties at Lake View Heights in Boyle, Co Roscommon.

Mr McConville also acknowledged that he failed to comply with the Companies (NI) Order 1986 by not filing an annual return and accounts for 2007 with Company Registry.

The department said its aim was to call to task directors who have abused the privilege of limited liability through negligence, incompetence or lack of commercial probity.

Directors can be disqualified for between two and 15 years.

DETI has accepted 26 disqualification undertakings and made five orders disqualifying directors in the year starting April 1 2011.
