By Clare Weir

Fifty new jobs are to be created as a fashion chain opens new stores across Northern Ireland.

Blue Inc is expanding in Belfast, Dungannon, Newry, Londonderry and Bangor.

In March 2011, Blue Inc acquired stores from Officers Club, further increasing its store base across the UK and increased the brand's already strong high street presence and in 2012 Blue Inc bought a further 20 D2 stores.

Around a year ago the company opened six stores, in Belfast's CastleCourt, Tower Centre, Ballymena, Cityside Retail Park, in Belfast, the Show Grounds in Omagh, Erneside, in Enniskillen and High Street Mall, Portadown, bringing the total number of stores in Northern Ireland to 14.

The chain now has over 240 stores in the UK and employs more than 2,000 people and sells menswear, womenswear and a range for under 14s.

Blue Inc's chief executive officer, Steven Cohen, said that the expansion into Ireland comes after a successful period for the company.

"We are really excited about opening the new stores," he said.

"The stores will create many new jobs and we hope they create a real buzz in the surrounding areas." Blue Inc was founded over 100 years ago in 1912 and is a leading high street fashion retailer.

The company started life as a hat shop in Stratford, east London.

Over the past year Blue Inc has continued to expand in the high street and has successfully opened 240 stores across the UK.
