Fight against legal highs boosts Randox

By David Elliott

Legal highs are expected to help a Co Antrim firm boost its turnover by 35% over the last year.

Randox Toxicology, an offshoot of diagnostic company Randox, said its turnover will reach £5.5m by the end of this year as it helps tackle the growing popularity of the so-called designer drugs.

The company specialises in speedy drug detection and builds on Randox's technology, which allows a number of substances to be found in a single sample.

Global Business Manager Rick Bell said the company is finding a ready market across the world.

"Over the past year our sales performance has been very positive across all product groups," he said.

"However, with the widest toxicology test menu in the world, our growing reputation as the leader in screening for designer drugs is reaping very positive results, with growth of annual turnover up by over 50%.

"Supplying law enforcement agencies in six continents, everywhere from Brazil to the Bahamas, Randox Toxicology is proud that local expertise is integral to the global fight against the menace of drugs and so-called 'legal highs'."
