Firm pecks at bird market
A gardening firm is to launch a new range of bird care products in the UK.
Westland Horticulture in Dungannon specialises in the development and sale of gardening products.
Established in 1988, it also owns Unwins, a top seed brand and employs around 300 people at sites in Northern Ireland and at Alconbury in England, selling around 95% of its products in Britain and the Republic.
Westland recently launched Peckish, a food for garden birds. Invest NI assisted the company with essential market information which shaped its strategy.
Westland Horticulture's business development manager Declan McArdle said that it was important to have information about potential markets to ensure a successful launch.
Invest NI's Vicky Kell said that Westland used the body's Business Information Centre for market data to assess the potential for Peckish.
