By David Elliott

A Newry fit-out company said its new £7m factory will help it target new business in the southern hemisphere.

MJM Group said the 100,000 sq ft facility will help it keep its costs down and challenge for business across the globe.

The company started out 30 years ago as a family joinery firm but has since become a specialist in fit-out in the marine sector.

"The marine market in particular is becoming increasingly competitive so we are focusing on reducing costs to maintain a leading position in the industry," founder and managing director Brian McConville said.

"By enhancing our skills and capabilities, we've built up a strong reputation as a global player and will continue to focus our future sales efforts on opportunities outside Northern Ireland."

MJM Group currently employs 128 staff at its factory. It has received £106,507 from Invest NI over the last three years, including £58,000 to support the company's entry into New Zealand and the establishment of an improvement team, creating seven new jobs.
