First 'build to rent' apartments for Belfast city
A new £12m apartment building is due to become Belfast's first so-called 'build to rent' scheme.
Holywood firm Lacuna and Welsh developer Watkin Jones plan to build the 19-storey apartment block on a car park at Academy Street in the Cathedral Quarter.
'Build to rent' apartment blocks are rental only, with secure long-term tenancies from a landlord, who retains ownership. They include services such as security, concierges and cafes.
Lacuna and Watkin Jones are behind several student accommodation buildings in Belfast.
The designers are Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. Anthony Best of Lacuna, said: "To create a vibrant, modern city, Belfast needs to encourage a resident population of young, skilled, economically mobile professionals."
