A Security firm has won a £1.2m contract with transport company Translink.

The public transport provider awarded the three-year deal — worth £1.2m per year — to G4S Northern Ireland after a competitive tendering process.

G4S has already been providing security services at several Translink locations since 2003.

The firm will provide security at Translink bus and rail stations including Central Station and Great Victoria Street Station in Belfast, as well as several Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company properties and car parks.

G4S will also provide security staff to manage high passenger numbers through stations for special events such as the recent MTV Europe Music Awards events in Belfast city centre. The contract will see around 50 full and part-time employees carrying out duties such as customer care, control room operation, access control and security patrols.

Hilton Parr, customer services manager for Translink, said: “G4S have been providing professional security services at a number of train stations in recent years helping to enhance the overall customer service experience.”
