Grand idea could land our local livewires cash prize

Young entrepreneurs in Northern Ireland are being offered the chance to win cash prizes in a new awards scheme.

By entering and winning a monthly Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas award, applicants have the chance to win a total of £11,000 and be crowned Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Each month, up to five Grand Ideas awards of £1,000 are handed out to people aged 16 to 30 to get their business ideas off the ground.

All applicants to the monthly awards are now in with a chance of winning the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and gaining an additional £10,000 prize on top of their £1,000 win from the monthly award.

James Smith, chairman of Shell UK, said: "Entrepreneurs can breathe new life into our economy. The Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards provides a vital boost to entrepreneurs across the country."

The Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas awards have been awarded to over 100 entrepreneurs since launching in 2009. Combined with the Young Entrepreneur of the Year, they have awarded a total of £5m since launching in 1982.

Shell has supported small enterprise in the UK since 1982 and is a support partner of the Start Up Britain Campaign.

The fuel giant is also a founding partner of Entrepreneur First, a Government-backed two-year training scheme for graduates who have their own business ideas.
