High-flying energy firm wins subway deal

By Margaret Canning

A social enterprise in Co Londonderry has won a major contract to light up part of Glasgow's subway.

Environment 2,000 was awarded the deal for a station car park by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport after an open tender.

The Draperstown energy efficiency specialist, which is part of The Workspace Group, said its electricians and a project manager were now installing the new lighting control system at the Shields Road car park.

The system, which features LED fluorescent tube replacements supplied by Light Footprint in Belfast, is designed to cut energy bills by up to 70%.

Environment 2,000 business development manager Oliver Phelan said the contract was a "significant win" for the company, which employs around 15 staff.

"This deal is great news for Environment 2,000 and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team."
