Hotel Chocolat to open choc chain cafe in Belfast

By Margaret Canning

High-end chocolate chain Hotel Chocolat will open a coffee shop and store close to Belfast City Hall next week.

The business will unveil the combined cafe and shop selling its luxury chocolates at the former Co-op Bank premises on Donegall Square North.

It already operates a shop on William Street close to Victoria Square Shopping Centre.

Hotel Chocolat has 13 cafes around the UK, and the Donegall Square location will be its first coffee shop on the island of Ireland.

A refit of the former bank is now being carried out. A spokeswoman confirmed the coffee shop is due to open on Friday, May 26.

The company said last month: "Our cafes are a new concept that brings together everything we do under one roof - from cocoa-growing and chocolate-making to innovative new cocoa-based drinks and food.

"Hotel Chocolat set out to make British chocolate exciting again. Now we are going one step further, creating cafe spaces to relax, refuel and be restored.

"A revolution in cafe culture, customers can explore our award-winning Hot Chocolat, available in eight different chocolate types."

It is the latest upmarket food business to make Belfast its first location in Ireland.

Patisserie Valerie has two outlets in Belfast, but has yet to open in the Republic.
