IKEA defies downturn by posting sales rise
IKEA UK and Ireland said it has defied a downturn in the home furnishings market with almost a 1% rise in like-for-like sales to £1.2bn in the last year.
The Swedish furniture giant, which has stores in east Belfast and Dublin, said the year to August 31 had been “challenging” but that some business areas had shown growth.
Kitchen sales were up 11% coupled with a 1.4% rise market share uplift, which the company said was the biggest in the market.
Storage was up 11%, dining solutions by 9% and children’s IKEA by 4%.
IKEA UK and Ireland said it had invested £11m on improving its stores in the region.
