The elite of Northern Ireland’s tourism industry attended a glittering extravaganza at the Europa Hotel to recognise the finest professionals in their field in true “Oscars” style at the Institute of Hospitality’s Janus Awards.
Hosted by BBC’s Wendy Austin, the sixteenth annual Janus Awards attracted a record number of entrants who had to wait until the end of the evening to see who scooped the top awards.
Sinead Scott, Chairperson of the Institute said "Each year I think the build up to the Janus Awards is more exciting than the year before and the run up this annual Institute of Hospitality Awards has been by far the most exciting yet. There has been so much investment in the tourism product in Northern Ireland it is right that the Industry Leaders are recognised for their invaluable contribution to tourism”.
Stephen Magorian won the Special Award of the Year for significant contribution to the Industry;
“Stephen has set a high standard for the Industry in Northern Ireland by his consistent focus on quality of service and product. He has also contributed back to the industry though his many memberships of tourism organizations, contribution to charities and outstanding contribution to youth programmes”.
Chris Mawhinney, Executive Chef of the Hilton Belfast won the Executive Chef of the Year.
“Chris and his team have been providing a superb food product which has been tasted by a variety of guests from Presidents & Politiciansto tourists and the general public.”
