Invest NI helps win sales in China

Invest Northern Ireland support has helped Belfast-based Wellington Computer Systems secure sales in China estimated to be worth over £1.5 million.

Wellington Computer Systems develops bespoke and packaged software for clients in the FMCG sector across Europe as well as Oracle financial software.

The new business in China comes as a result of a distribution agreement signed with Lochaine, a Shanghai-based software firm, following an Invest NI trade mission to the region earlier this year.

Wellington, with the support of Invest NI, is investing £200,000 to raise the profile of its brand and product portfolio in the Chinese marketplace, and further develop the multi-lingual capability of all products.

Alex Dunne, MD of Wellington Computer Systems, said: “The growth of China's economy has created an amazing demand for luxury products including fine wines, premium beers and leading brand spirits.

“With 25 years of experience in developing financial software solutions across Europe, we knew we would be ideally placed to provide the most advanced and innovative systems for a high growth part of China's FMCG sector.”

Mr Dunne said Invest NI's office in China provided trade advice and helped set up meetings with potential distributors in Beijing, Tianjin, Hong Kong and Shanghai during the mission.

“It was through this we secured a partnership with Lochaine, a company that demonstrated the high level of sales and technical skills that we believe can promote and fully support our products in this growing market,” he added.

“By 2011 we expect to have secured sales in China worth over £1.5m and with ongoing marketing activities supported by a £200,000 investment, we are confident this figure will grow.”

Donal Durkan, Invest NI's Director of Life Science and Creative added: “Wellington Computer Systems is a well established company which has steadily grown its business across Europe with a focus on innovation and technical excellence.

“Wellington has demonstrated a strong product offering, extensive market knowledge and Invest NI support can help innovative and ambitious companies realise their potential in the world's largest and most competitive marketplace.”

Invest NI has offered £78,544 towards a total investment by Wellington of £200,000.
