Jobs boost at gum-busting firm after £20k grant

By Clare Weir

A small Co Antrim firm which markets machines which banish chewing gum from the streets is taking on four new staff thanks to over £20,000 support from Invest Northern Ireland.

Sarcon Ltd, which trades as GRV Ireland, set up last year in Doagh manufacturing gum removal vehicles (GRVs) for sale to Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Sarcon is the European manufacturer and distributor of the vehicle on behalf of Bio Steam Australia, its developer and is being assisted by the 'Jobs Fund', part of Invest NI's Boosting Business initiative.

The company is owned and run by co-directors Mark Holland and Robin Byers.

"Invest NI's Jobs Fund has made all the difference to our first year of trading, allowing us to employ additional staff to deliver both the service and manufacturing elements of the business," said Mr Holland.

Invest NI's Gren Armstrong said: "Our Jobs Fund has offered £28,000 of support to enable the company to employ four people, which will give it a chance to get established in its first year and achieve its turnover targets."
