Lagan Construction International wins £17m Cambridge airport contract

By Clare Weir

A Belfast construction firm has been awarded a £17m airport contract.

Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group has awarded Lagan Construction International the infrastructure project at Cambridge International Airport.

The main works will include the refurbishment of an apron, construction of a new taxiway, runway resurfacing, and an upgrade to the drainage and airfield lighting systems.

More than 100 staff will work day and night on the project, which is targeting a 98% recycling of materials on-site and further recycling off-site of other materials such as packaging.

Steve Turner, director of international operations at Lagan Construction International, said that the firm will mobilise an in-house concrete and asphalt plant and will 'self-perform' a large proportion of the works.

"We have a fully committed team to ensure the project is delivered with the highest safety standards and within programme and cost requirements." he said.
